Received a message from a friend of mine that use to work at GAME this morning. He said that GAME Australia just hit administration; he then also sent the following source to me .

Games retailer GAME has gone into administration, leaving the future of its Australian operations in doubt. Can you still safely buy from the chain? And what happens with existing orders? Here’s what we know (now updated with official statements).

While it’s hardly a welcome development, voluntary administration is not quite as bad as a firm closing down for good. As the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) helpfully explains in its consumer guide to insolvency explains, the purpose of voluntary administration is to reorganise the business as a functioning concern: “During a period of external administration companies often continue trading under the control of the external administrator.” We don’t yet know what the long-term outcome for GAME will be, though the most obvious exit strategy would be sale to another retailer or investor.

With that in mind, I’d offer these three pieces of advice for current and potential consumers. (Mark at Kotaku is continuing to dig into this story, and I’ll update if any further information comes to hand.)

Buying goods in-store is fine. If you’ve paid for something and have it in your hands, there’s nothing to worry about. And if stores are closed in a relatively orderly fashion, there may well be bargains to be had.

Buying online is very risky. If you order goods and the administrators decide to close the operations before they ship, you’ll be very low on the list of creditors to be repaid. (First up are the administrators themselves, then secured creditors such as banks and landlords.) I’d be holding back from ordering online from GAME for the near future.

Pre-orders are uncertain. If you’ve pre-ordered a title and GAME can’t supply it (which seems to be the case for Diablo III), you’re unlikely to receive it, but you shouldn’t ultimately be charged for it — any moneys paid should be refunded. I’d keep an eye on your credit card statements just to be sure, and the administrators should provide further details, but that’s the basic legal position. That said, you won’t necessarily see a refund right this minute — with everything else going on, the process could take a while.

If you have paid on a credit card, you should also be able to organise a refund via your card provider if you don’t receive the goods

I added the link for you Hilman.

I guess its no surprise after the UK branch went through the same thing earlier this year. The online store seems to be still taking orders which is very dodgy. It should be shut down immediately.

For those who didn't read all of the first post. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THE ONLINE STORE!!! YOU MAY NEVER RECEIVE YOUR ITEMS!!!

The future of GAME Australia will be decided in a few days.

GAME Australia's struggling business has received a number of expressions of interest from parties keen to rescue the games retailer.
The local business entered voluntary administration earlier in May after months of financial struggle and the collapse of its UK counterpart. Administrators PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) held the first creditors meeting yesterday, where voluntary administrators and PwC partners Kate Warwick and Greg Hall analysed expressions of interests advertised previously.
"Despite the very challenging circumstances facing the retail sector, we have received various expressions of interest for parts of the business, including a number of parties expressing interest in the business as a going concern," Warwick said.
According to the firm, GAME Australia could continue to operate as a business.
"We are currently exploring the possibility of achieving a continuity of the business as a going concern with the company's many landlords who appear pivotal to any continuation."
Warwick said the firm is currently examining all expressions of interest and will make a decision on the future of the business in the coming days. The parties who expressed interest in GAME Australia have not been named.

GAME Australia to Shut All Stores

Retailer to immediately shut 15 stores; remaining outlets to close in coming weeks.
After a protracted struggle to stay afloat, GAME Australia has finally succumbed to its financial troubles. The company's administrators--PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC)--have confirmed today that all GAME stores in Australia will close down in the coming weeks.

PwC said 16 stores will shut immediately, with the remaining 15 to be shuttered in coming weeks.

"In the interests of creditors, the 31 remaining Game stores are to be closed over the coming weeks and a final closing down sale has commenced with discounts of up to 60 percent available in-store and online," administrator Kate Warwick said in a statement.

"This is a difficult time for employees and closing the stores was not a decision we made easily. Despite exploring available opportunities for continued trading, the ongoing trading performance and absence of viable offers for the purchase of the business has resulted in these closures."

Sucks to see game leaving the market, will basically leave the market open to EB's and and JB hi fi duking it out. Apparently Dick Smith ARE leaving the games industry, but who knows.

Kmart, Big w and target will still be around (I assume).

Big W usually has good prices for new releases putting pressure on everyone else.

My BigW never gives you sealed games so I don't buy from them anymore. A couple of "new" games I bought from them in the past have had several marks on the case. On the other hand my local Kmart and JB do sell sealed games so i still occasionally buy from them.

Sad :(

I remember a couple of months ago a few Gametraders stores around the country were shutting down. Now all of GAMEs stores permanently? Guess no one can beat EB.

I feel sorry for those who are now without work. Gonna pop down to my local tomorrow to see if I can grab anything....(if it's still open).

If the console manufacturers cut out the second-hand market somehow, like recent rumours have been suggesting, I'd expect gamespot/eb to shut down also.

Publishers and game retailers are slowly being pushed out of the picture, there isn't enough profit margin in physical product. Publishers deal with it by having contracts set up where a certain amount of DLC will be released after the game. Retailers, all they can do is make a bit of money on second hand sales.
